Pictured below is an excellent and large vintage modernist bown glass chalice vase designed by Wayne Husted for Blenko, Milton, West Virginia, 1958. The design number is 581, and the color is mulberry, a deep, smoky purple color that was only produced in 1958.
The piece features a simple, sculptural, linear design with a large flaring bowl at the top, fused to an inverted conical form at the bottom. This is a very large, very weighty piece, of excellent quality and craftsmanship, with bold, clean modern lines and big visual pop. I believe this particular design to be somewhat scarce on the market. It would be a fine addition to any collection of American art glass, and look great in any Danish modern, Eames or Panton inspired setting.
Measurements: The piece stands about 12 ¼ tall; the diameter of the opening at the top measures about 6 1/8. Condition: The piece is in good used vintage condition, with some mini-chips and roughness around the bottom edge (pictured), some stray bubbles from the blowing process, but no notable detractors.
