Blenko Glass 5929-S Wayne Husted Turquoise Blue Chessman Decanter Sandblast Mark

A fabulous and iconic Blenko Glass 5929-S "Chessman" decanter with stopper, designed by Wayne Husted. At first thought the stopper might be a different blue like Persian, but after looking at some of the turquoise variations believe it to be just a very dark turquoise. In fact, the body of the decanter itself has varying shades of blue - the top portion is darker than the rest of the body, so perhaps it was meant this way. Very difficult to photograph the exact colors, we've taken a variety of pictures in a number of different locations to try show it.

I will try take further photos if requested. Shown in Leslie Pina's Blenko book on pg 61, this is the smaller decanter but still monumental at 21 1/2 tall including the stopper.

Stopper is ground at bottom, as is mouth of decanter. Pontil on bottom, marked with sand-blasted Blenko mark. In good vintage condition with no cracks or chips. Some water deposits at the interior bottom.

Dust and a bit of dirt. Some striations, lines, inclusions within glass from manufacturing. Stopper goes in perhaps a bit at an angle - not terribly off and you can turn it so it's not that bad, but will mention it to be accurate. Measures about 21 1/2" tall including stopper, 15 1/4" tall for the base only. About 7" wide at bottom, 4 1/2" wide at top of base.
