Gorgeous C. F. Monroe Nakara Wave Crest Dresser Box
Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a beautiful "Nakara" Wave Crest Art Glass dresser box by the C. Measures 3 3/4" in diameter and 4" high.
Wave Crest glass was produced as an opal glass blank and was then hand decorated. There were three types of decoration used on this opal glass - Wave Crest, Kelva and Nakara each decorated with their distinct style decoration. Both "Kelva" and "Nakara" decorated items were made in less quantity than basic "Wave Crest" items and are for that reason are generally more expensive and harder to find. This glass was at the height of its popularity from 1890 to 1910. Much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt. As undecorated glass blanks to be decorated by their artists. This wonderful "Nakara" dresser box features a soft pale blue background with an enameled dark bkue design embellished with white jewels in relief. The top and base are fitted with a decorative ormolu brass bands and the base is fitted in an ormolu mounting with decorative feet. The hinge is tight and opens and closes correctly however the clasp is slightly off center.The box is lined with its original blue silk lining, however, the linen is worn (see photos) - no other noted flaws. The condition of this lovely box is excellent with no chips, cracks or repairs. The background color is not faded nor is the paint worn. There is minor wear on the gilt brass areas from normal wear.
