TIFFANY STUDIOS New York Intaglio Cut Gold Favrile Onionskin Glass Tazza c. 1910
100% Authentic Tiffany Studios New York onionskin gold favrile glass tazza featuring a lovely wheel cut by hand intaglio design featuring grape leaves and vine tendrils surrounding the rim. This object is a tour de force of from the design house of Louis Comfort Tiffany! The fabulous texture and iridescent gold favrile glass changes colors with every movement and light quality. The onionskin effect is created while the glass is still molten, and a fine spray of gold and other metals in solution is applied to the surface, then the rim is carefully flared and the iridescence crackles slightly as the rim expands, creating a delightful effect. The artisans at Tiffany Studios then skillfully wheel-cut by hand the intaglio patterns of grape leaves on tendrils of a vine all around the outer rim of the tazza. Each leaf shows a slightly dimensional effect from the ancient intaglio process. The grapevine motif was one of the more popular botanical themes of the Art Nouveau aesthetic movement with the sinewy vine tendrils flowing around the object. The stem of the tazza features an applied ball perched on an inverted cup base to complete the effect in pleasing classic proportions and is properly signed on the bottom with the shape number, "1954" and L. This stunning favrile glass tazza was created circa 1910 at the Tiffany Studios in New York. Finely ground and polished pontil on the bottom which is yet another indication of the fine workmanship at Tiffany Studios.

Measures approximately 6" across in diameter at the flared rim, 2 1/2" across in diameter at the foot, and stands at approximately 2" tall and has a nice "ring to the glass when gently tapped, like all Tiffany Studios favrile blown glass. MINT condition with little, if any wear. Past owners must have cared so lovingly for this object for the past century! I pack extremely well to ensure that all delicate items arrive safely.
