Carl Erickson Art Glass Rare Orange Vase Stopper Label MID Century Modern Blenko

This VASE is an incredibly RARE FORM and RARE COLOR from Mid Century Modern Art Glass master CARL ERICKSON. Even the Ohio Glass Museum, with its Erickson collection, has never seen one like this.

The brilliant orange color (now considered a classic of Mid Century Modern design) is even more vivid than the pictures show. The base of the vase is about 8 wide, and the body of the vase is about 6-1/2 high.

The clear stopper is 5-1/2 long. When the stopper is inserted into the vase, the total height is about 10-3/4.

Incredibly, the vase still has its original fragile HANDMADE by Erickson label / sticker -- almost never seen anymore. This is a true COLLECTORS PIECE , and it makes an incredible impact. No chips, no cracks, no water residues because this beauty was put away and, other than a little wear on the tag (as shown), it stayed as perfect as the day it came home. This vase has incredible provenance. My late father was a sales representative for Soovia Janis, Inc.

A NYC design / decorative accessories firm, in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. One of the lines he represented was Erickson Glass. This vase was one of his samples. We've owned a lot of Erickson (still do), and I've seen a lot more over the years, but this is literally the only example of this vase I've ever seen. According to the Ohio Glass Museum, Carl Erickson, an immigrant from Reijmre, Sweden, a famous glass center, established Erickson Glassworks in Bremen, Ohio in 1943, after a stint as a designer and teacher at the renowned Blenko Glass Company. Erickson produced world-famous handmade art glass until 1961. He personally designed most of the pieces manufactured at his glass works. Among other distinctions, Erickson received a design award from the Museum of Modern Art in New York, did commission work for the Smithsonian in Washington, D. And produced glass pieces for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Corning Museum of Glass.
