L. C. Tiffany-Favrile Art Glass Lily Pads Bowl with 2 tier Flower Frog

"Lily Pads w 2 tier Flower Frog" centerpiece bowl. An outstanding piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York, circa 1918. Based on the suffix letter M after the number signature mark on the bottom. This piece is done in Tiffany's highly sought after Gold Favrile style of art glass with an applied decoration. The bowl stands 4 1/4" tall and is 10 1/4" in diameter.

This centerpiece bowl has a round shape with a raised cylindrical center piece of glass to receive a 2 tier flower frog with 2 rows of looped rings to hold flower stems. It is further decorated along the inside of the bowl with 5 green Favrile lily pads connected to each other by intertwining vines. The iridescence is outstanding I used no light to photograph, just end of the day sun. As you can see the beautiful onion skin texture throughout the bowl. There is a sense of free form and an organic nature.

The underside is smooth EXCEPT for a small oval shaped flick (shown in photograph next to the dime) and shows nice iridescence as well. The bowl is finished with a rolled thick border top edge for added strength. Otherwise this centerpiece bowl shows minimal wear on the underside bottom. The bowl is signed on the bottom edge where the center piece rises up with Tiffany's counter clockwise etched signature that reads, 1409M L L.

The flower frog is two tiered. The bottom of the flower frog is signed with these same numbers so you know that this flower frog has always been with this bowl. Where the frog is inserted into the bowl there are two flea nicks (shown in photograph). This bowl is in good used condition- 3 minor use flaws described and photographed above take it out of the mint condition status but do not detract from its beauty, use or importance as an L.
