Magnificent stained glass window, measuring approximately 24-3/4" x 74-1/2" with the 3-dimensional grape and leaf design is a signed Tiffany Studios window with the curvilinear TS insignia between the two words. The signatures dates to 1905. The acid etched signature appears in the narrow glass strip located on the lower right corner of the window.
Tiffany art glass is dichroic glass, which takes on different color and characteristics according to the light. The coloring of the polychromatic glass in this piece is typical of the works of Tiffany which reflect his skills in producing glass true to nature's colors. This window is a unique, one of a kind masterpiece. It was created for a New York bank, and installed over the front door. Louis Comfort Tiffany was the father of the American Art Nouveau movement, representing nature idealized. The grapes, leaves, and vines pattern of this window represent a classic art nouveau pattern. Drapery glass was invented by LC Tiffany. I believe that this piece was created by Louis Comfort Tiffany himself. I have never before seen nor heard of any window with glass created in a 3-dimensional effect like this one. Two of the pieces of 3D glass are 5/8 deep. He was a great experimenter, as seen in the many, fabulous and unique characteristics of this outstanding piece.
