Rare Fenton Art Glass "CHESSIE" Carnival Covered Jar, amethyst glass with heavy purple/blue iridescent finish, about 8 tall including the lid. Excellent condition - no chips or damage. It is marked on the bottom "December 1970 "Chessie" by Fenton".

This is the original version Fenton made in 1970 for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad, adapting the cat from a 1933 etching done for the railroad. The cat with his head resting on the pillow was used as a logo and mascot for the railroad. Any white spots you see in the photos are just reflections from the overhead lights.
