Washington CROWN MILANO Art Glass marmalade jar. Measures 5 1/2" high (at handle), 2 1/2" high (at jar) with a maximum width of 5" and base diameter of 3 1/8". This stunning marmalade jar has a matte finish, melon ribbed body decorated with an all-over bamboo pattern enameled in pale green and brown and outlined in gold on a creamy white ground. Original silverplated rim, bail and chased decorated lid. The plated rim and lid are unmarked but were likely made by Pairpoint.The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Originally called "Albertine", the patent for this Art Glass was issued in 1893.
The name was later changed in the Mt. Washington factory records to "Crown Milano".
The early examples of this glass originally had a paper label with some of the later pieces marked with the "C M" monogram. Although unmarked, this lovely piece is unquestionably Crown Milano glass and is a fabulous example of this RARE and collectible Art Glass. Illustrated on page 122 of the. Marmalade jars are more scarce than the cracker or biscuit jar.
