Quezal Art Glass Lidded & Footed Jar or Urn. For your consideration is a rare QUEZAL Art Glass Lidded & Footed Jar or Urn, circa 1902 -1924. The QUEZAL Art Glass & Decorating Company was founded on March 27, 1902 by Martin Bach, Nicholas Bach, Thomas Johnson, Adolph Demuth, and Lena Scholtz in Queens, New York. The name QUEZAL was chosen for the rare and beautiful Central American bird, the quetzal, which was often used in the company's literature to promote its products. The President, Martin Bach Sr.

In 1891 and was the key driver behind the growth of the company. Following his arrival, he worked for Louis Comfort Tiffany as a chemist at the newly formed Tiffany Glass & Decorating Company in Corona, Queens. After almost 10 years, Bach left Tiffany to establish his own company (which actually infuriated Louis Tiffany). Thomas Johnson, also a former employee of Tiffany, and Maurice Kelly were two of the early master glassblowers employed at QUEZAL, whose techniques led to some of the most impressive accomplishments of the company with QUEZAL Art Glass ranking with the very best of early 20th century American art glass.

This is a very unique piece being lidded and having the three applied loop feet. The colors are awesome with the top lid and neck of jar having a slightly brighter iridescent gold finish with the lower portion having a softer orange tone.

The jar/urn has a fire finished top rim (can be displayed with or without lid) and a polished pontil on the bottom side. It is properly signed with the beautiful QUEZAL signature. Both top & bottom are in excellent condition, free of any chips, cracks or repairs and shows very little wear.
