Vintage Signed Joel Philip Myers Art Glass Sculpture Blenko Illinois State Univ
Wally taught ceramics at the School of Art and Design at Alfred University, Alfred, NY from 1957 - 1985. Joel Myers was born in 1934. He received a BFA and a MFA at AU in the 1960's. Joel was Director of Design at Blenko Glass from 1963 - 1970.
He may have made this piece during this time. Joel went on to start the glass department at Illinois State University and he taught glass there until 1997. He became an Internationally renowned glass artist.
A search on the internet will bring up much info about him and examples of his beautiful work in glass. This piece is a gorgeous blue color. It has an indented area on one side that pushes the glass into the interior space creating a new dimention to the form. It is signed Joel Philip Myers.
The piece is in excellent condition. It has some slight calcium film on the inside which was most likely from it being used as a vase at some time. Other than that there are no chips, cracks, or defects.
